ASUS ROG G20CB Review: Powerful Gaming PC

This is a review of the ASUS ROG G20CB – a computer that is just perfect for gaming, and it was created for the top level gamers.

Therefore, if you are a real gamer, then this computer should be yours.

If the task is to assemble a powerful gaming computer, the main obstacle, as a rule, is money. They need to be invested in the motherboard, memory, video card and other computer components.

A truly powerful computer requires an appropriate level of components that simply cannot be cheap.

Assembling a powerful computer working quietly does not present difficulties either.

The main task of this assembly is to invest well in the cooling system.

The problem arises when there is a desire to assemble a computer that is both powerful, quiet and compact.

The question arises that not all buildings are suitable for modern components, but only those into which all components would fit – that is, they should be quite spacious.

ASUS ROG G20 is a computer in this class.

It satisfies three conditions at the same time: it is very powerful, it works quietly in a compact case.

This amazingly powerful, quiet and at the same time compact ASUS ROG G20 gaming PC – an overview of all its characteristics, read below.

ASUS desktop computers – the most popular Windows PC

Innovation, design, and reliability are the keywords in the design of all ASUS products. As proof of its success, ASUS has been awarded the Reader’s Choice Award by PC Mag, for the second consecutive time in terms of general reader satisfaction, and for the third time in a row in the desktop category. PC Mag says, “If you want an efficient desktop computer, ASUS is the best choice to make” 4.

The ROG G20 has won the “Best Choice Golden Award” and the “Best Choice of the Year” award.

The appearance of the ASUS ROG G20CB

The problem of combining three seemingly incompatible conditions – power, silence, and compactness – is solved by the body. It is not standard and looks like a truncated pyramid.

The upper, front and lower panels are equipped with ventilation grilles made in the form of patterns. In addition to ventilation, on the front side, you can find a button with which you can turn on the computer. It also housed 2 high-speed USB ports, 2 audio connectors, as well as an optical drive.

The remaining connectors that the manufacturer equipped this system unit are in the rear guard. The rear panel contains 6 USB ports, of which exactly a third is high-speed. There is a network connector, as many as 6 pieces of audio outputs, an HDMI port. The part of the video card on which the video outputs are focused goes to the back wall.

In order for the computer to work fully, it needs 2 power supplies. They are also located behind. The blocks are united by some kind of rubber base, but this is not a dogma of configuration – you can easily disconnect them without compromising on functionality.

Hardware configuration of ASUS ROG G20CB

The configuration of the Asus ROG G20CB computer that we tested was presented in the table. Further, we will consider in detail all its features.

The system board of this computer is based on the Intel H170 chipset. It has a proper name, although it is specially designed for the ASUS tower and is not found in retail.

But, in principle, it could be interesting in and of itself, since it is well suited for any modular computer, having a minimum of integrated “hard” components or using less common component interfaces.

Video cards of the ASUS g20 gaming tower

As for the video cards, there can be as many as seven according to the specifications, but only one of the possible options uses a chip from AMD – the familiar to us Radeon R9 380 (though with only 2 GB of video memory).

There may also be four “outdated” Nvidia GPUs: from 950 to 980. The last option we tested was. But the most interesting modifications at the moment are the latest: equipped with a GTX 1070 and 1080, with 8 GB of memory in both cases; to which the GTX 1060 should be added in the near future.

ASUS ROG G20CB mouse and keyborad

Mouse and keyboard

These input devices are also included in the delivery package of the computer, leaving conflicting memories about themselves.

Let’s start with the G01 KB keyboard. At first glance, it’s an ordinary membrane model with a standard keystroke and “narrow” Enter, out of the additional elements equipped only with rotating volume control.

If you take a closer look, you can find a switchable blue LED backlighting of the keys, a Win key lock (which will allow you not to “accidentally crash” from games to the desktop)

Cooling system and noise level of ASUS gaming PC

As you would expect from such a productive computer in such a compact case, the ASUS ROG G20CB cooling system is very impressive in the complexity of its design.

Firstly, with regard to the processor, in its case, it is built not on simple fans, but on high-performance turbines with a system of heat sink tubes, which, in aggregate, cover almost the entire motherboard, blocking access to it for quick installation of parts and connecting interface connectors.

For their own open-type fan cooling system installed on video cards, the designers tried to free up enough space in the case for acceptable air exchange.

In fact, almost an entire half of the ASUS ROG G20CB is a direct air duct that draws cool air through the lower slots and expels the heated stream through the wide grilles in the rear and upper parts of the case.

Speed Up

The ROG G20 computer is available in several configurations, one of which includes an M.2 PCIe® Gen 3 x4 solid-state drive that provides data speeds of up to 2 GB / s — four times faster than regular SATA SSDs.

The DDR4 SDRAM used in the computer has a maximum throughput of 2.1 GT / s, which is twice as high as that of the DDR3 1066.

This computer is equipped with a high-speed USB 3.1 Type-C port, operating at speeds up to 10 GB / s, which is twice as fast as USB 3.0, and compatible with Type-A ports.

Disk subsystem

The manufacturer understood that a gaming computer requires a very fast disk operation, therefore, in this assembly, there are 2 hard drives.

One of them is an ordinary HDD, has a capacity of 1 terabyte and, most likely, is designed to store data. A drive that claims to be the main one in the system is an SSD.

As you know, drives of this kind are characterized by a very high speed of both reading and writing.

This is probably the answer to the question why the ASUS ROG G20 computer has such good reviews – after all, gaming performance is the most important thing, and from the point of view of the disk subsystem, the computer is able to provide sufficient performance.

Complete connectivity

The ROG G20 gaming desktop PC comes with all the connectivity options you need. With a total of eight USB ports in the front and back, there will always be a port ready to accommodate your devices.

Connect your ROG G20 to an HDTV with an HDMI cable for great entertainment.802.11ac Wi-Fi delivers a strong signal and speeds three times faster than standard Wi-Fi, giving you smooth online gaming experience.

Also, connect your ROG G20 to any Bluetooth device with built-in Bluetooth 4.0.

Keep your data at your fingertips with ASUS innovations in storage.

The ASUS ROG G20CB comes with 100 GB of free space on Web Storage.

So, as long as you have an Internet connection, you can store and reach your data in the cloud, wherever you are and in complete security. You can also share photos and videos with your family and friends via a secure URL.

General and 3D performance

With a processor that reaches 4 GHz, with four cores and eight process threads, and a Geforce GTX 780 we can expect the best from this computer to work up to 2k resolutions.

Reaching other higher things, such as 4k, is something we can do as long as we do not force the system with very demanding games at that resolution.

Is it worth the ASUS ROG G20CB to spend, without a doubt, a very high amount?

On the one hand, you get a really productive gaming system with a powerful modern processor, a capacious hard drive and a fast SSD drive.

At the same time, the ability to choose a video accelerator from the widest range of available options allows you to quite thoroughly adjust your financial costs.

On the other hand, any advanced gamer is unlikely to want to be able to put on their table a modern machine with an almost top-end Core i7-6700 processor and, so far, the most productive of all NVIDIA video cards in the GeForce series – GTX 1080.

At the same time, the proprietary “ASUS” configuration of this kind will cost about one and a half or even two times more expensive than a similar system, but assembled in a more affordable, but much more overall case.

Therefore, unfortunately, almost all of the solutions released by ASUS in the Republic of Gamers (ROG) line still remain expensive “toys” for true fans, and not so much the brand itself as this series.
