The laptop power button is broken, making it very difficult for you to start your Laptop, so are there any other ways to start the PC? How to Turn on a Laptop without the power button?

Using a Keyboard

Enable your Laptop’s BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) as a backup power button even before encountering a power button problem (which is common).

Here’s how to use the keyboard to start your computer running Windows 10:

  1. When the laptop boots up, hit the “F2,” “F10,” or “DEL” keys to access the BIOS.
  2. Find the “power management” option. You should be able to locate similar options to “power on by keyboard,” this may vary by manufacturer.
  3. Create the backup power keys and save the settings
  4.  Turn your Laptop off and test your Laptop’s appropriately set up BIOS.

This technique is more of a prophylactic approach to avoid using the trickier techniques on this list.

Using the Motherboard

Any laptop can use this technique, even if the power button is entirely broken.

What you must do is as follows:

  1. Disconnect the charging wire.
  2. Find the power button by opening the Laptop’s cover.
  3. Take the power button off.
  4. Look for 3 to 6 pins under the button.
  5. Short circuit pins 1 and 3 using any conductor (such as a screwdriver), or Utilize a wire to connect the pins.
  6. Hold off till your laptop powers on.

Remember that frequently utilizing this technique might ruin your motherboard and laptop chassis, which is why professionals don’t advise it.

Clock Battery Method

The clock battery approach calls for a great deal of technical expertise therefore you need to be careful when practicing:

  1.  Unplug the motherboard’s battery cable(distinct from the charging cable).
  2.  Cut the clock battery’s connection to the motherboard.

You may start your Laptop using the cold-start technique when it is connected to any power source. Remember, though, that doing so will also reset your Laptop to its factory settings.

Using a Socket Wall

For computers from Dell, Toshiba, ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, and HP, this technique works well. It’s also an excellent solution for people whose laptops are without a power button and do not want to short-circuit it.

  1. Unplug the cable that links the motherboard’s power button.
  2. Remove the Laptop’s battery
  3. The Laptop will turn on once you plug it into an electrical outlet.
  4. If you wish to unplug your Laptop from the wall outlet, replace the battery.

Some laptops require BIOS configuration in order to turn on when connected through AC.

Using the Laptop lid

A laptop normally just enters sleep mode when the lid is closed, but you may change the settings so that the lid also turns the computer on or off:

  1. When the laptop starts, hit the “F2,” “F10,” or “DEL” keys to access BIOS.
  2. Enter “Power management.”
  3. Make necessary changes in “power on with open lid.”

Using wake-on LAN

Another defense against problems with the power button is wake-on-LAN:

  1. When the laptop starts, hit the “F2,” “F10,” or “DEL” keys to access BIOS.
  2. Enter “Power management”.
  3. Set your favorite startup keys and enable Wake-on-LAN on your Laptop.
  4. Reboot after saving the adjustments.

For this approach to function successfully, your network card must also be configured on another laptop or computer.

  1. Get “Device Manager” open.
  2. Select “Properties” from the “Network Adapter” menu.
  3. “Allow this device to wake the computer” may be found under “Power Management.”
  4. Turn on “Wake on the magic packet” in the “Advanced” section.

Even easy is the case for Mac users:

  1. Activate System Preferences.
  2. Select “Wake for network access” in”Energy Saver.”

Inspect your router’s configuration next to see whether WOL settings are there. If not, you’ll need to install your port forwarding settings or set up DNS on your smartphone.

You may remotely start your Laptop using this way.
